First and foremost, everyone send good vibes our way (right now!) as Nick and I tackle the first airport experience with baby – this morning. We’re headed to Seaside, Florida for a long weekend vacation with some friends to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary.
Our annual beach trip is looking much different this year – starting with packing. I’m a little embarrassed by the amount of luggage we have (new luggage, mind you) – how does adding one tiny human require so much STUFF. For my travel pro mamas out there, I’d love to hear your tips and tricks, because we’re feeling very amateur hour over here.
To start, we’re taking our trusty stroller to the airport – checking our carseat, pack & play (SO easy to travel with), and 2 suitcases. Then we still have a carry on, stroller and diaper bag to boot. I’m already tired.
For the beach, we borrowed this handy gadget from a friend based on her latest beach experience with her little one. We have rash guards, hats, sunscreen and beach toys to last us hours of entertainment. When is nap time?
But honestly, we are so excited to take Jackson to the beach for the first time – I’m sure we’ll have plenty of stories when we return. #momsclub – if you have any advice, speak now or forever hold your peace!!
This week, Nick and I are celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary. Rather than go for another round of jewelry, we decided to gift each other a new set of luggage. I know – we need to calm down.
If you know my husband, you’re well aware of the extensive research involved with this kind of purchase. We’ve trolled the internet for over a week reading every consumer report, guide and retail site in the search for the perfect set. Slightly painful, but beneficial for you (if you’re in the market for a new suitcase, that is).
Should you ever need it, here are my top takeaways for what to look for in your luggage:
- Look for the longest warranty
- Know exactly what kind of bags you need – don’t get suckered into a package deal. Buying a la carte is best
- If you’re in the market for a hardsided suitcase, look for 100% polycarbonate (the alternative and less expensive ABS and composite polycarbonate is more susceptible to scratches and cracks)
- Durable zippers – if your zipper breaks, you’re quickly out of commission
- Wheels: 4 dimensional, recessed wheels minimize any damage to the wheel system and make for the easiest travel
In the end, we went with the Delsey Helium Shadow 3.0 (the names kill me) from Macy’s since we were in the market for a hardsided bag. It took one focused trip to the department store to finalize our choice and decided on sizes. The best part about these bags? They’re SUPER affordable (because who really wants to spend an arm and a leg on luggage?). Nick and I laughed that we could buy every size, and still come in under what we’ve budgeted for ourselves. While I went into this venture with my Tumi-loving nose in the air, I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of these bags. Here were our top contenders:
PS: We went with the 21in (weekender/carry on) and the 25in (week vacations)
8 Months! It’s really really hard to believe this tidbit is 2/3 way through his first year. When I was pregnant, the first things I bought for my little bun were these overalls. At the time, they seemed so little – smaller than doll sized! I immediately started anticipating the day he/she (since we kept it a surprise) would fit into them – how far off that felt!
Once Jackson was born, the overalls immediately became massive. How would he ever fit into those!? As we struggled through those first few months, I was certain they wouldn’t fit until well after his first birthday. Then, as I was dressing him the other day, I decided to give them a shot. THEY FIT! The little miracle I’d been day dreaming about for what seemed like an eternity finally fit into the first outfit I bought him!
At 8 months, I’m amazed, overwhelmed and ecstatic at how strong and independent he’s become. He LOVES to walk with our help, crawl and chase our dogs, and chew on everything his little hands come in contact with. These overalls fit his personality so well – spunky, fun and playful. We love you, little man!
Outfit details: top and skirt currently on sale 🙂 Perfect for a bridal brunch or casual work wear with the jacket.
