To quote Monty Python and the Holy Grail…I’m not dead yet! This month of radio silence has been a total blur. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been a contributing member of society – but I’m BACK!
On September 25th, Nick and I welcomed our sweet baby BOY, Jackson Robert Mesec, to the world. 8 pounds, 21.25 inches of pure joy. There is nothing in the world that could have prepared us for what we experienced that day, and there is no way I could adequately describe how surreal it felt bringing sweet Jack into the world. Wildest day of my life – hands down.
One day, I might share those fun details with you, but today is not that day. To summarize: drugs are awesome, and yes, I’ll do it again (Nick legitimately asked me this 5 minutes after Jack was born).
What I do want to talk about is the steep learning curve that has been this past 30 days. When we left the hospital, Nick and I looked at each other in shock that they would let us leave with this little human life. They’re going to trust us with a baby!?
In the constant cycle of diaper changing, burping, soothing, and feeding, we somehow picked up on our new rhythm of life. My days have been busy doing absolutely nothing I can recall, and I also realized you don’t really need 8 hours of sleep every night – a solid 3 is suffice.
The postpartum life is a little bit like walking on eggshells. One day is incredible and you’re supermom, and the next you’re in a puddle of tears looking at this tiny nugget wondering how in the world you’ll measure up. Everything in life has been flipped upside-down, and in the best way possible. In the next few weeks, I wanted to go into things I think could be helpful to note – product reviews, what to wear/how to dress this new strange bod, etc. Let me know if there’s anything else you want to talk about – I’d also love to hear your advice!
Before we get into all of that, let me introduce you to my newest obsession, baby Jack-o-lantern. These pictures were taken 5 days after Jack was born – ones I’ll treasure forever!
